Seven people, including a schoolgirl, were killed in separate incidents of lightning strike in Sherpur, Habiganj and Sunamganj districts on Monday.
In Sherpur, four people, including a schoolgirl, were killed separately as they were struck by lightning different parts of the district, reports UNB.
Sharmin, a Class-X student and daughter of Sohel Miah of Pagharia village in Nalitabari upazila, died on the spot as a thunderbolt struck her while returning home from tuition around 8 am.
Abdur Rahim, a farmer of Halgara village in Sadar upazila, was killed by a lightning strike while cutting paddy around 10:45 am.
Meanwhile, Shahidul Islam, a young man of Mojarchar village in Nakla upazila, and Kubbat Ali of Bakchar village in Sreebardi upazila, were killed in separate incidents of lightning strike in the morning at their respective villages.
In Habiganj, two farmers were killed and another was injured when a thunderbolt struck them at Telghari haor in Baniachang upazila in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Adhir Baishnab, 27, and Basu Baishnab, 32, of Daulatpur village while the injured is Krishnadhan Baishnab, 30.
Shailen Chakma, additional superintendent of police (Baniachang Circle), said a streak of thunderbolt bore down the three farmers while they were cutting paddy, leaving Adhir and Basu dead on the spot and Krishnadhan injured.
The injured was taken to a local hospital.
In Sunamganj, Nabo Kumar Das, 65, a farmer of Chayer Haor in Shalla uapzila, was killed after being hit by lighting while working in his paddy field around 11 am, said Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Shalla Police Station.
