A legal notice has been sent to the concerned authorities demanding information and explanations regarding all the facilities given to seven members of the parliament of BNP.

Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman, a Supreme Court lawyer, on Monday, sent the notice to the Secretaries of the Parliament Secretariat, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Governor of the Bangladesh Bank and Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh.

“Peoples have voted and elected these MPs for five years and they administered oath to serve the people for five years and in consideration of serving the people law offers remuneration and allowance and other benefits to the MPs. And it is illegal and unethical to enjoy such privileges, remuneration, allowances and other benefits without serving the full tenure o five years,” read the legal notice.

The lawyer asked the respondents to provide the information within 72 hours. Otherwise, the further legal step will be taken regarding the issue, he warned.

Five out of the seven BNP MPs submitted their resignations in person to Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Sunday as part of their party's anti-government movement.

The MPs who resigned in person are Md Zahidur Rahman of Thakurgaon-3, Md Mosharof Hosen of Bogura-4, Gulam Mohammad Siraj of Bogura-6, Md Aminul Islam of Chapainawabganj-2, and Rumeen Farhana, from women's reserved seats.

Md Harunur Rashid of Chapainawabganj-3, who is now in Australia, and Abdus Sattar Buiyan, the ailing MP of Brahmanbaria-2, could not tender their resignations in person on Monday and did it through email.

Later the Parliament Secretariat issued a gazette notification declaring the seats of six BNP MPs vacant. The seat of another BNP MP Harunur Rashid was not declared vacant as his resignation letter was not accepted.
