BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has filed a bail petition with the High Court in a case filed under Special Power Act over torching a covered van in Chouddagram upazila of Cumilla in 2015.
Khaleda's lawyer Advocate Kaisar Kamal on Tuesday filed the petition with the concerned bench of the High Court on behalf of Khaleda.
The petition also sought cancellation of a Cumilla court order that rejected her bail plea in the case.
Earlier on September 13, Judge KM Shamsul Alam of the District and Session's Judge Court in Cumilla denied her bail in the case, reports UNB.
On January 25, 2015, a covered van was set on fire at Haider pool of Chouddagram municipality on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway.
The following day, Sub-Inspector Nuruzzaman of Chouddagram Police Station filed a case against the BNP Chairperson and 31 other leaders and activists of the party over the incident.
