A Dhaka court has directed the authorities to provide BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who was jailed for five years in a graft case, with the facilities of the first class division as per the jail code.

Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of Special Court-5 passed the order around 11:30am on Sunday upon a petition seeking its directive about this.

On Thursday, Khaleda, a 73-year-old former prime minister, was taken to the old central jail after a special court sentenced her to five years of imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

Five others case accused, including her son Tarique Rahman, who is now living abroad, received 10-year prison term, reports UNB.

Accusing the government of keeping its chairperson in solitary confinement at the abandoned old Dhaka central jail, BNP on Saturday demanded that she be given the first class division immediately.

Or else, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, the government would be held responsible if anything bad happens to Khaleda.
