Justice Naima Haide, a judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, has been appointed as chairperson of the Supreme Court Legal Aid Committee (SCLAC) which provides legal assistance to poor litigants free of cost.
She is the first female chairperson of the Supreme Court Legal Aid Committee which started its journey in September 2014.
Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique made the appointment recently as the outgoing chairman Justice Jahangir Hossain was promoted as a judge of the Appellate Division of SC on December 8 last year.
Md Saifur Rahman, Registrar of the Appellate Division of the SC and also the spokesperson of the apex court, issued a press note on Thursday regarding the issue.
