The Jatiya Sangsad (parliament) will sit to discuss the 16th amendment verdict and possible legal steps regarding some of its observations.
Chittagong-8 Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal MP Moin Uddin Khan Badal proposed the discussion under Article 147 of the Parliamentary Procedure Code. The discussion has been scheduled for Wednesday.
“This parliament believes that the appellate division’s decision declaring the 16th amendment to the constitution illegal should be dismissed and calls for appropriate legal action to be taken to remove the unconstitutional, offensive and irrelevant observations made by the Honourable Chief Justice regarding parliament and other important matters,” Badal’s proposal said.
The session will begin at 5pm with the question and answer section. Badal’s proposal is to be discussed after any emergency public notices and legislation is handled.
The full verdict nullifying the 16th amendment to the constitution was released on Aug 1 to heated discussion following the end of the sixteenth parliamentary session, according to bdnews24.com.
