Japan to give $1.78m for Rohingyas

The government of Japan has allocated 200 million Japanese Yen or approximately US$ 1.78 million to UNHCR for its programme to support the Rohingya in Bangladesh.

This assistance is to support UNHCR's activities under its "Cyclone and Monsoon Preparedness and Response Programme" that also benefits host communities in Bangladesh, said the Japanese Embassy in Dhaka, reports UNB.

This brings Japan's assistance through international organisations and NGOs to the crisis in the People's Republic of Bangladesh to more than $52 million since August 2017.

In addition to this assistance, the government of Japan supports ongoing humanitarian and development activities of JICA, which includes water supply in collaboration with IOM to more than 40,000 people that benefits both the displaced Myanmar residents and host communities in Cox's Bazar.
