Ivy Rahman's 14th death anniversary observed

The 14th death anniversary of Ivy Rahman, former president of Bangladesh Mahila Awami League and wife of late President Zillur Rahman, was observed today in a befitting manner.

To mark the day, different political and socio-cultural organisations, including Bangladesh Awami League (AL), its associate bodies and other likeminded organisations took elaborate programmes.

The programmes included placing wreaths and offering fateha at her (Ivy) grave at Banani graveyard, arranging milad mahfil and special prayers, and holding discussions in the capital and elsewhere across the country, reports BSS.

Central leaders of Awami League and its associate bodies paid rich tributes to Ivy Rahman by placing wreaths at the Banani graveyard this morning.

They also offered fateha and doa seeking eternal peace of her departed soul.

AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Joint General Secretary Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Organising Secretary AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Engineer Md Abdus Sobur were present on the occasion, among others.

A milad and doa mahfil was held at the Ivy Concord Tower at Gulshan-2 seeking eternal peace of departed soul of late President Zillur Rahman, Ivy Rahman and August 21 grenade attack martyrs.

Apart from family members and relatives of the deceased, leaders and workers of Awami League and its associate bodies attended the milad and doa mahfil.

Besides, separate milad and Qurankhawni was held at Ivy’s ancestral home and in-laws residence at Bhairab upazila in Kishoreganj district.

A discussion was held at Bhairab Upazila Awami League office.

Ivy Rahman, also former president of Bangladesh Mahila Samity, received grievous injuries during a grisly grenade attack on an AL rally at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city on August 21, 2004 and succumbed to her injuries on August 24.
