Hot weather likely to persist for days

The prevailing hot weather is likely to continue for the next couple of days, according to Met office.

The highest temperature in Dhaka was recorded at 35.5 degree Celsius on Sunday, slightly up from 34.5 degree Celsius the day before in the capital.

"Like Sunday, the weather condition in Dhaka is expected to remain hot and dry for the next few days," a meteorologist Shahinul Islam told the FE over the phone.

He termed the current level of temperature 'not unusual'.

The intensive heat is causing humidity in the air, thus city dwellers experience sweating, he added.

"The weather pattern took a sharp turn to scorching heat this week from the frequent rainfall in the last week," said Mr Islam.

Replying to a question, he said the current level of temperature in Dhaka cannot be called a heat wave.

"Heat wave occurs when mercury rises above 36 degree Celsius," he said.

But the weather bulletin of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) published on Sunday said the highest temperature of the country was recorded at 36.6 degree Celsius in Jashore.

There could be a little change in weather on Monday and Tuesday, the bulletin said.

The rainfall may increase in following five days, it added.
