Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today (Tuesday) predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over Chattogram, Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet, Dhaka, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Rangpur Divisions in the next 24 hours ending at 2 pm Wednesday.
“Southwest monsoon is active over Bangladesh and moderate over North Bay… The well marked low over Northwest Jharkhand and adjoining area moved northwestwards and now lies over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Uttar Pradesh,” said a weather bulletin this morning.
“The axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajsthan, Hariyana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal and thence northeastwards to Assam across central part of Bangladesh while one of its associated troughs extends upto North Bay,” the bulletin added.
Due to the situation, heavy (44-88mm) to very heavy (>89mm) rainfall with gusty or squally wind is likely to occur in various parts over the country.
Due to very heavy rainfall, landslides may occur at some places over the hilly regions in Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.
Meanwhile, a Met office warning message said, rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary South or South-Easterly gusty or squally wind speed 45-60 kph is likely to occur in the regions of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Pabna, Bogura, Kushtia, Jashore, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chittagong,Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet, said a BSS report.
River ports are advised to hoist cautionary signal number one.
