People in most parts of the country may feel a sigh of relief from the existing scorching heat from Wednesday as the heatwave may abate in those places tomorrow, according to a met official.

Dr Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik, a meteorologist at Bangladesh Meteorological Department, said some places in the country may still see a mild heatwave tomorrow.

However, it may fully subside in nearly all parts of the country from Thursday, he added.

The met office in its 24-hour bulletin said a mild heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Nilphamari and Chuadanga and it may abate from some places.

However, light to moderate rain/thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind, is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, it stated.

Rain may also occur at a few places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country, the bulletin said.

The axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across central part of Bangladesh, it said, adding that one of its associated troughs extends up to North Bay.

Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over North Bay, as per the bulletin.
