Heat wave likely to continue until Tuesday noon

People in almost every parts of the country including Dhaka are still suffering from the scorching heat and humid weather.

However, the prevailing heat wave is likely to continue until Tuesday noon, said Abdul Mannan, a meteorologist at Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over eight divisions across the country including Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram & Sylhet divisions and it may abate from some places tomorrow due to the impact of the Cyclonic Yaas, he said.

The well-marked low over East Central Bay and adjoining area moved north-northwestwards, intensified into a depression and then into a deep depression and further into a Cyclonic storm “Yaas” over the same area (Near lat. 16.2°N & long. 89.9°E) at 06 AM today (24 May 2021), the meteorologist said.

It is likely to intensify further and move in a north-northwestely direction. Trough of low lies over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and adjoining area, according to the 24-hour met office bulletin.

Light to moderate rain/thundershower accompanied by temporary gusty/squally wind is likely to occur at a few places over Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram & Sylhet divisions while at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi & Mymensingh divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country, the forecast said.

The country’s maximum temperature was recorded 39.8 Degree Celsius in Khulna on Sunday, it added.
