HC issues over unauthorised schools, madrasas

The High Court (HC) on Monday issued a rule asking authorities concerned to explain why the unauthorised schools and madrasas across the country shall not be closed down.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal issued the rule after holding hearing on a writ filed in this regard.

The court also asked officials including education secretary, director general of Directorate of Primary Education, director of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education to reply to the rule within the next four weeks.

"Many unauthorised educational institutes are running openly across the country and some teachers of authorised schools are selling textbooks provided by the government at free of cost at the illegal institutes," advocate Mohammad Faridul Islam, who moved the writ before the court, told newsmen.

According to BSS, writer Ohona Nasrin and rights activist Nasrin Sultana filed the writ in this regard.
