The government has decided to build an opera house in the capital’s popular recreational spot Hatirjheel.
The theatre will boast all modern facilities.
"The design of the project titled "Dhaka Opera House Complex" was placed before Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official Ganabhaban residence here on Thursday noon," PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told reporters after the event.
He said the Ministry of Cultural Affairs will implement the project, reports UNB.
The press secretary said Chief Coordinator of the project Major General Abu Sayeed Md Masud and its architect Patric D' Rozario placed the design before the Prime Minister through a power-point presentation.
Besides, Sheikh Hasina witnessed the design of the National Museum Library Integrated Project.
Architects Khandakar Ashifuzzaman Rajan and Abu Anas Faisal submitted the design before Sheikh Hasina through a power-point presentation, the press secretary said.
"The Ministry of Cultural Affairs will also execute the scheme," he added.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, Cultural Affairs Secretary Ibrahim Hossain Khan and Shilpakala Academy Director General Liakat Ali Lucky were, among others, present.
The Hatirjheel-Begunbari project was inaugurated on January 2, 2013 by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
After the inauguration, it has turned into one of the most favourite recreational places of Dhaka residents.
On April 14 last, an eye-catching amphitheatre and a grand musical dancing fountain were opened at Hatirjheel lake to attract more visitors and tourists.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated those under a Rajuk project titled 'Integrated Development of Hatirjheel area including Begunbari Canal' through a videoconference from her official residence Ganabhaban.
