The government on Tuesday revised the cost of the ongoing Joydevpur-Elenga 4-lane road construction project, raising it by 66 per cent to Tk 55.93 billion from the current cost of Tk 33.65 billion.
The decision was taken at the regular meeting of The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) with the council’s Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
The Roads and Highways Department (RHD) is upgrading the Joydevpur-Chandra-Tangail-Elenga Road (N-8) into four-lane highways.
ECNEC also approved and revised total 13 projects at a combine cost of Tk132.88 billion.
Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal informed it to reporters after the meeting.
He said a total of 15 projects were placed before the ECNEC meeting but two were sent back for recast.
The ECNEC also approved Construction of a double line railway track on Khulna-Darshana section under the Indian Line of Credit-II in a bid to strengthen cross-border transport with India.
The ECNEC meeting also approved a Tk18.36 billion cost project for reconstructing or rehabilitating iron bridges at 42 upazilas under six districts of Barisal Division.
The other approved projects include Development of Pahartali workshop, 2nd revised at TK 3.18 billion, upgrading one regional, two district highways to proper standard and width under Naogaon Roads Division with Tk 3.15 billion, Development of Joypurhat (Hitchmi)-Puran Ipol-Pachbibi Hilli (including road link) highway at Tk 1.97 billion and upgrading Narail-Fultola district highway into due standard and width project at a cost of Tk 1.18 billion.
