At least four people were killed and two others injured when a train hit a covered van at a manned level crossing near Feni Railway Station on Wednesday.

Abdul Alim, sub-inspector of Feni Railway Police camp, said it is not clear whether the gateman of the level crossing was present during the accident, reports UNB.

"The gateman went into hiding after the incident," Alim said.

Railway police said Chittagong-bound 'Turna Nishitha' train from Dhaka crashed into the covered van of 'Sohel Transport' at the level crossing around 4:30am as it tried to cross trail tracks, leaving three people dead on the spot and three others injured.

On information, police went to the spot and recovered the bodies.

The injured were taken to Feni Sadar Hospital where another victim died after admission.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
