At least five people were killed and two others injured as a fire broke out at a shoe factory in old Dhaka's Shuarighat area early Friday.
The identities of the victims could not be ascertained immediately.
The five people died from suffocation while sleeping on the second floor of the three-storey factory, according to the fire department’s media cell. The two others received injuries as they jumped from the building.
Firefighters recovered their bodies and handed them over to the local police, they said.
The blaze broke out at the factory around 1:10 am on Friday, said the officials of the fire media cell.
Upon receiving the information, eight units of the fire service rushed to the spot and put out the blaze at 3:00am.
The amount of the damage in the incident could not be known immediately.
