Five die in separate road crashes in Chattogram

Four people including two women were killed when truck a ran over them near the Shah Amanat Bridge in Baklia area of Chattogram. The accident also left nine people injured.

A transport worker was killed in a separate accident when a covered van ran over him at the AK Khan junction in the south-eastern district.

The incident in Baklia took place at 11 am on Friday, Amir Uddin, naik of Chattogram Medical College Police Outpost, told the media citing witnesses.

“A cement lorry lost control and ran over a rickshaw and an auto-rickshaw on the road.”

The accident took place at the entry point of Mariners’ Road near Shah Amanat Bridge.

Three of the dead have been identified as Nasreen Akter, 35, Hasina, 40, and Shah Paran, 28. Another dead man believed to be 45-year-old is yet to be identified.

The injured Abdus Sattar, 40, Imran, 6, Abdur Rahman, 40, Anil Barua, 45, Sharmin Akter, 23, Regan, 33, Sifat, 16, Didar, 30, and Jahangir Alam, 45, have been admitted to hospital.

Among the injured, three are in serious condition, said Amir Uddin.

Baklia Police Station chief Pranab Chowdhury said they will provide the details of the accident later.

In a separate accident, Sirajul Islam, 60, a transport worker died when a covered van ran over him while he was jaywalking at around 8 am at the AK Khan junction.

Doctors declared him dead when he was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, said Chattogram Medical College Police Outpost's ASI Alauddin Talukdar.

Sirajul hailed from Teligram, Chouddagram in Cumilla and worked as a supervisor in a transport company called CDM Transport, reports bdnews24.
