A ferry carrying several vehicles has capsized in Manikganj’s Paturia. No casualties have been reported so far.
The incident took place near Paturia No 5 ferry terminal on Wednesday morning, according to the authorities.
The Fire Service deployed divers to a rescue mission, reports bdnews24.com.
The ferry, named 'Shah Amanat', was loaded with 17 freight trucks when it arrived at the Paturia pier from Daulatdia, according to BIWTC official Nazrul Islam Misha. The vessel began to tilt after passengers along with two trucks disembarked.
Citing witnesses, Patuary River Police chief Abu Bakar Siddique said, "I've heard that three trucks were swept away. The ferry was also carrying three motorcycles, four or five private cars and a few trucks and covered vans."
On the number of people who were on board, he said, "No one can say for sure. The accounts vary from person to person."
More details will come in the course of the rescue operation, he added.
