Bangladesh Railway (BR) has signed a deal with a Bangladesh-China consortium to carry out the feasibility study and detailed design of Dhaka-Chattogram High Speed Railway Project.
The contract was signed between BR and the consortium comprising the China Railway Design Corporation of China and the local Majumder Enterprise at Rail Bhaban in the capital on Thursday.
The consortium is expected to finish the feasibility study within 18 months at a cost Tk 1.02 billion.
Railways Minister Md Mujibul Haque, among others, was present at the signing ceremony.
Talking to the reporters after signing the deal, Mujibul Haque said upon construction of the track the train would run at the speed of 200 kilometres per hour which would reduce the travel time between Dhaka and Chattogram to two hours from existing five hours.
The project would start after 18 months of the consultancy services, the minister added.
