The Election Commission is considering the Rangpur City Corporation election to be held on December 21 as a major test ahead of the national elections scheduled for some day between Oct 30, 2018 and Jan 27, 2019.
Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda said they are trying the best to take all the elections including the city corporation ones to a fair and acceptable level so that people become trustful of them.
The Election Commission (EC) already began this effort with holding Comilla City Corporation Election to such a level and it will not be an exception in Rangpur, he said.
The current Election Commission (EC) held the Comilla city polls in March after taking office in February of this year. Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) election will be the second city vote conducted under its authority.
BNP-led alliance had boycotted the 10th general elections on Jan 5 of 2014, leading to a staggering number of the party-in-power candidates winning uncontested. Kazi Rakibuddin was then in charge of the EC.
