The Election Commission is happy with Khulna City Corporation election as it was largely held in a peaceful manner.
Election Commission Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed came up with the statement at a post-election briefing at Nirbachan Bhaban on Tuesday.
"The Election Commission is satisfied in the manner the election was held in," he said.
The election was stopped in three polling stations, out of 289, due to irregularities, reports UNB.
"However, the election was held in a fair, excellent and peaceful manner in the remaining 286 polling stations," the EC Secretary said.
About BNP's allegation that their polling agents were driven out from polling stations, Helaluddin said a political party can raise complaints.
"Our officials are there. They said the voting was held in a peaceful manner," he added.
Magistrates and EC officials rushed to those spots where problems appeared and solved those.
"It's a local election and all eyes were on it," he said.
About the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs), the EC Secretary said the EVMs were used in two polling stations where the results could be announced within an hour after the conclusion of the voting.
