The Election Commission (EC) on Sunday finalised the draft rules to use Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in the general election.
The commission finalised the draft rules at a meeting held at Nirbachon Bhaban in the city with Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda in the chair, said EC joint secretary SM Asaduzzaman.
He said the EC formulated the draft rules in line with the recent amendment to the Representation of the People Order (Amendment) 1972 which incorporated a provision to pave the way of using EVM in the general election like local body elections.
The EC will now send the draft rules to the Law Ministry for vetting before publishing a gazette notification over the rules, said the official.
On October 31, President Abdul Hamid promulgated an ordinance amending the RPO incorporating the provision of EVM use in parliamentary polls, reports UNB.
