Teachers of Ebtedayee madrasas have called off their hunger strike following the government's assurance that the demand would be fulfilled.
The strike that continued for eight days in Dhaka ended after a meeting between teachers representatives and the education minister on Tuesday.
Teachers started the hunger strike on Jan 8 in front of the National Press Club after staying there for a sit-in protest since Jan 1.
The strike ended around 2pm, when Secretary to the Education Ministry’s Madrasa Division Md Alamgir appeared before the demonstrators and announced the government’s decision, says bdnews24.
“The education minister and state minister met the finance minister and discussed the matter, when they were told to forward the details, which will be sent within a day or two,” he told the teachers.
