The city dwellers will get traffic jam-free and safe roads within the next two years.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokan made the comment while presiding over the first meeting of a committee formed to bring discipline in public transport sector at the seminar room of Nagar Bhaban in the city.
The committee will begin its activities as per the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after her return from abroad, reports BSS.
Sayeed Khokan said, “The main works of the committee will be to ensure the safety of the common people by bringing discipline on the roads.”
In this regard, they will work for bringing the buses under some companies by rationalising the city routes, Sayeed said, adding, “The committee will also work for plying environment-friendly busses to reduce air pollution in the city.”
He urged the city dwellers to keep faith in them.
Seeking advice of all, the DSCC mayor said, “If anyone including experts, civil society members and students, provide us their advices, we will implement those after detailed discussions.”
He hoped that the committee would be able give safe roads free from traffic jam within the next two years.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Panel Mayor Jamal Mostafa, DSCC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Khan Mohammad Bilal, DNCC CEO Mesbahul Islam, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Chairman Md Mashiur Rahman, Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Mir Rezaul Karim, Public Transport Expert Dr SM Saleh Uddin, Bangladesh Road Transport Sramik Federation Vice President Md Sadequr Rahman and Dhaka Road Transport Authority Executive Director Khandaker Rafiqur Rahman, among others, were present in the meeting.
