Ganoforum President Dr Kamal Hossain has urged police not to work for any specific political party during the next general election.
"Bangladesh police have water lily (Shapla), the national emblem, in its monogram. Millions of people sacrificed their lives for achieving it," he said while addressing his party's district representatives' conference at the Shilpakala Academy in the capital on Saturday.
"So, I urge all the policemen not to be sold even for millions of Taka. You have to keep the honour of this national emblem," continued Dr Kamal, one of the key authors of the country's Constitution.
He also said the Election Commission should remain neutral to conduct a free and fair election, reports UNB.
Recalling Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Dr Kamal said Ganoforum is working to establish Bangladesh as a country free from discrimination, corruption and communalism.
Chaired by district Ganoforum president Mamunur Rashid, the meeting was addressed, among others, party's general secretary Mostafa Mohasin Mantu, executive president Subrata Chowdhury, vice-president Abdul Aziz and organising secretary Mostafa Ahmed.
