Bangladesh has expressed its grave concern at the recent launching of a ballistic missile over Japan by Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) or North Korea.
“We've seen that through a series of ballistic missile tests in recent past, the DPRK has shown a total disregard to the relevant UN Security Council resolutions," Bangladesh’s foreign ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
It said such wanton acts of provocation consists a threat to maintenance of peace, stability and security in the region.
Bangladesh, being a signatory to the NPT and CTBT, called upon DPRK to honour its international obligation and commitments, and refrain from such show of force and defiance.
"As a responsible member of the UN, Bangladeshis committed to the concept of collective security as espoused under the objectives and principles of the UN charter. We will continue to be engaged with the international community in this regard," said the foreign ministry.
