Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)’s traffic department filed 2713 cases and collected fines of Tk 2.3 million in separate special drives against traffic rules violators in the capital on Sunday.
Besides, 69 vehicles were dumped and 618 other vehicles were put on the wrecker during the day-long drive, reports UNB.
Sources at the Traffic Department said they filed cases against vehicles on various charges, including violation of traffic rules, using hydraulic horn, beacon light, dark-tinted glass, as well as for plying the vehicle on the wrong side of the road.
Among the cases, 238 cases were filed for plying the vehicles on the wrong side of the road, 65 for using hydraulic horns, seven for beacon light and six for using dark-tinted glass.
Besides, cases were filed against 713 motorcycles for violating traffic rules and 38 other motor cycles were also detained during the time, said a senior police officer preferring anonymity.
The Traffic Department of the DMP has been conducted special drive as part of its routine works, he said.
