Dhaka University’s hall authorities expel three students for torturing fresher

Authorities at Dhaka University’s Bijoy Ekattor Hall have expelled three students for six months for torturing a fresher at the dormitory’s so-called guestroom.

The three students are Kamruzzaman Raju of Sociology Department, Hriday Ahmed Kajal of History Department and Md. Yamin Islam of the Social Welfare faculty.  They are the students of the 2019-20 academic session, reports UNB.

Earlier, a three-member inquiry committee was formed led by Prof. Shah Miran.

Prof. Salam said the investigation committee submitted its report on January 31 following which the administration issued the six-month expulsion order against the three students, found involved in the incident.

The expelled students are reportedly the followers of the DU Chhatra League leaders Abu Yunus and

Saddam Hussein.

On January 26, Akhtarul Islam, a student of the 2020-21 session of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department of Bijoy Ekattor hall, was physically and mentally tortured for not attending the guestroom meeting by some students of the 2019-20 session.

After the incident, Akhtar lodged a written complaint to the provost of the hall.
