All the wards under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) will have their own secondary transfer stations (STSs) by June this year, said its Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Tuesday.
The STS, also known as house, is used for dumping waste.
"We (DSCC) have built the 50th STS. The work of STSs is going on in other wards. I am hopeful that we will be able to complete building of STSs in the rest of the wards by June this year," he told the media after inaugurating the STS at Ward No 7 (Maniknagar) in the city.
"We have taken initiatives for purchasing modern and new equipment to give a modern shape to our waste management system," he added.
He also expressed the hope that city dwellers will no longer see waste left on open spaces after modernising the waste management system.
DSCC high officials and ward councillors were present.
