The authorities of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Monday carried out drives against illegal manually-driven and battery-run rickshaws in city's different areas.
Public Relations Officer of DSCC Md Abu Naser told the FE that an executive magistrate of the corporation led the drives in Sadarghat, Beribadh and Baganbari areas in the city and seized seven battery-run rickshaws for not having valid papers.
Earlier, the DSCC also seized 15 manually-run rickshaws from city's Dhanmondi area on Sunday last.
The drive against illegal rickshaws will continue, Mr Naser said, adding that the DSCC authorities gave rickshaw owners time for taking licences. As many of them (rickshaw owners) ignored its directives, he said, the corporation has started drive against illegal rickshaws.
The seized rickshaws will be dumped in a designated place, he added.
