Dhaka offers condolences as Beijing mourns COVID-19 victims

Bangladesh has expressed deep condolences at the loss of lives due to the outbreak of the coronavirus disease in China as the latter is observing Mourning Day this day or Saturday, UNB reports.

"I'm very touched," said foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen in a message to his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi expressing his sincere sympathy for the families of the victims.

He said the people and the government of Bangladesh are with the friendly people of China and the Chinese  government to address this crisis.

The foreign minister thanked the Chinese government for taking care well of a good number of Bangladeshi citizens living in China at this tragic moment of the coronavirus outbreak.

Dr Momen wished good health, long life and happiness of his Chinese counterpart and continued peace, progress and prosperity for the "great country" China.

As of Thursday, a total of 81,620 confirmed cases of COVID-19 had been reported on the Chinese mainland, and 3,322 people had died of the disease.
