Ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia route in the Padma River remained halted from early Thursday due to dense fog.
The authorities of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) kept suspended the ferry services and plying of the water vessels on the route from 4:00am due to poor visibility for thick fog to avert accident, said Salah Uddin Russell, manager of BIWTC at Aricha.
One ferry loaded with vehicles and passengers remained stranded in the mid-river because of the suspension, news agency UNB reported citing the manager.
Five ferries with a good number of vehicles and passengers on board laid anchored at Daulatdia and Eight ferries at Paturia.
Passengers suffered as 200 vehicles had to be kept waiting on both ghats of the river, said the BIWTC official added.
