At least 12 more suspected drug traders were killed in reported gunfights early Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 117 in the anti-narcotic crackdown that started across the country on May 12.
Of them, two died in gunfights with law enforcers in Cumilla, as many in Kushtia and one each in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Satkhira, Thakurgaon and Barguna.
Besides, reported gun battles between rival groups left two alleged drug dealers dead in Jashore while one in Brahmanbaria, reports UNB.
In Cumilla, two suspected drug traders — Liton alias Kana Liton, 43, son of Abdus Samad of Poiyapathor area, and Baten, 34, son of Sahid Miah of Bakhornagar village of Muradnagar upazila—were killed in a reported gunfight with police in Gunjar area at around 12:30 am.
Police recovered a pipegun and 400 bottles of Phensidyl from the spot, said AKM Manjur Alam, officer-in-charge of Muradnagar Police Station.
Three policemen were injured during the incident, he added.
In Kushtia, two suspected drug traders—Mukaddes Ali, 42, son of Rezaul Islam of Munshiganj village and Fazlur Rahman alias Title, 48, son of late yakub Ali—were killed in a reported gunfight with police in Shehala field area of Daulatpur upazila at around 3:30 am.
Azgar Ali, officer-in-charge of Daulatpur police station, said Fazlur Rahman was accused in eight drug related cases.
Police recovered a pistol, five round bullets, a magazine and 250 bottle of Phensidyl from the spot.
Besides, three policemen were injured, he added.
In Dhaka, suspected drug trader Sumon alias Khuku Sumon, 42, was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Asian City Park in the capital’s Dakhshin Khan area at around 12:15 am.
Tapan Chandra Saha, officer-in-charge of Dakhshin Khan Police Station, said that they recovered a one shooter gun, 2 round bullets, four crude bombs and one thousand pieces of Yaba tablets from the spot.
Two policemen were injured, he added.
In Mymensingh, suspected drug trader Mizan, 45, son of Nurul Islam of Dakhshin Kachina village in Bhaluka upazila, was killed in a reported gunfight with police at around 2:10 am.
Ashiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch of district police said law enforcers recovered 100gram heroin, three bullet shells and a machete from the spot.
Mizan was accused in nine cases including drug and robbery, he added.
Meanwhile, two policemen were injured during the ‘gunfight’.
In Satkhira, suspected drug trader Anisur Rahman, 40, son of Surat Ali of Pakuria village in Koloroa upazila, was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Pilapul field under Deyara union at around 2:00 am.
Biplab Kumar Nath, officer-in-charge of Koloroa Police Station, said Anisur was accused in 10 cases and a listed Yaba trader.
Police recovered a one shooter gun, two round bullets and 70 Yaba tablets.
However, deceased’s wife Nazma Begum claimed that a team of plain clothes police detained her husband on Monday morning.
In Thakurgaon, suspected drug trader Harun, 45, son of late Abdul Aziz, was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Shitolpur area of Haripur upazila.
Ruhul Kuddus, officer-in-charge of Haripur Police Station, said Harun was accused in several cases filed with the police station.
In Barguna, a suspected drug trader Firoz Mridha, 45, son of Hashem Miah of ward no 4 of Betagi Municipality, and accused in nine cases, was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Kumrakhali village in Kajirabad union at around 4:30 am.
Mammunur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Betagi Police Station, said a revolver, a shooter gun, four round bullets and 240 Yaba tablets were recovered from the spot.
In Jashore, two suspected drug traders were killed in a reported gunfight between two groups of drug traders in Chanchra Raipara area of the district town at around 3:00 am.
Being informed, a team of police went to the spot and recovered the bullet-riddle bodies, Sub Inspector Manjurul of Kotwali Police Station.
They also recovered two pistols, five round bullet shells and two packets of Yaba tablet, police said.
In Brahmanbaria, suspected drug trader Jony Mia, 30, son of Firoz Miah of Baganbari area in Akhaura upazila, and accused in eight cases, was killed in a reported gunfight between two groups of drug trader in Khalajora area of Akhaura municipal at around 2:00 am.
On information, police rushed to the scene.
They recovered the body of the deceased, a pipe gun, a cartridge and sharp weapons from the spot, said Mosharaf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Akhaura Police Station.
