A Chapainawabganj court on Sunday sentenced six members of banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB) to 10 years imprisonment each in two cases filed under the Arms and the Anti-Terrorism Act.
The convicts are-Selim alias HarunMistri in Sadar upazila, AbdurRakib alias Sumon of Shibganj upazila, Rabiul Islam alias Roby and Ramjan Ali in Bholaha tupazila, Abdul Mumin alias Abdullah of Gomostapur upazila and Hazrat Ali alias Firoz Kabir of Niamatpur upazila.
The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, a special team of police conducted a drive at the house Rabiul Islam at Mushribhuja village in Bholahat upazila on June 17, 2009. According to his confessional statement, police arrested four other JMB men from different upazilas.
Two separate cases-one under the Arms Act and another under the Anti-Terrorism Act-- were filed with Bholahat Police Station.
Sub-inspector Waheduzzaman and sub-inspector Abdul Majid, investigation officers of the two cases, submitted chargesheet against them on August 12, 2009 and March 30, 2016 respectively, reports UNB.
