Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested 18 alleged drug addicts and they were sentenced to different terms of jail each by mobile court on charge of consuming drugs.
On tips-off, the elite force conducted drives in different areas of Charghat upazila in Rajshahi district yesterday (Monday) and arrested the people for their alleged involvement with drugs.
The RAB officials said they also seized 350 grams of cannabis and some other drugs-taking instruments from their possession.
Later, the arrestees were produced before a mobile court.
After examining the evidences, the mobile court sentenced all of them to jail on different terms, BSS reported.
Saiful Islam, assistant superintendent of police working with RAB, said different courts sent more than 135 drug addicts to jail during the last couple of days.
