A rickshaw puller was stabbed to death by some unidentified miscreants in front of Kali Temple in Panchbbi upazila early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Santu Das, 29, son of Raghunath Das of Sonarpatti Kundupara in the district town.
Maminul Haq, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said a group of miscreants swooped on Santu and stabbed him indiscriminately while passing through the Sweeper Patti area around 12 am, leaving him dead on the spot.
The motive behind the killing could not be known immediately, he added.
However, police detained Joy, 31, a sweeper by profession, for interrogation, according to a police statement, reports UNB.
