A young man was shot dead by miscreants in Brahmanbaria’s Nabinagar upazila on Sunday evening.
The deceased Shamim Sarker (26) was a son of Almas Sarker, hailing from Charlapang village of the upazila.
Criminals from the adjoining areas under Raipura thana of Narsingdi district took shelter at the village after committing crime, said Raju Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge (investigation) of Nabinagar police station.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of police along with local Awami League leaders went to the village in the afternoon.
When the team of law enforcers reached the spot, a gang of miscreants riding on some engine-run boats from Meghna river opened fire on Shamim, leaving him critically wounded, according to a UNB report.
The injured was rushed to upazila health complex where doctors declared him dead, said the OC.
