A tribunal in Chuadanga has sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for killing his sister-in-law after rape in 2014.
The convict was identified as Imon Ali, a resident of Darshana area in Damurhuda upazila, according to UNB.
According to the prosecution, Farzana Akhter, a schoolgirl and daughter of Liakat Ali of Damurhuda upazila, went missing on September 9, 2014.
Liakat filed a case in this connection with Damurhuda Police Station. After investigation, police arrested Imon Ali, brother-in-law of the victim and Abdul Majid, a mentally disabled man following the incident.
After interrogation, police recovered the body of Farzana from an abandoned house in the upazila, two days after she had gone missing.
Later, Imon Ali confessed to killing the girl after rape following her abduction.
After examining records and witnesses, Chuadanga Women and Children Repression Tribunal Judge Zia Haider on Thursday handed down the verdict and acquitted Abdul Majid for his mental condition.
