A court in Joypurhat has awarded the death penalty to a man for the murder of four people, including his 5-year-old son.
The court of Joypurhat’s district and sessions judge pronounced the verdict on Wednesday.
The convict, Suman Hembrom, used to live at his in-law’s place at a village of Panchbibi Upazila in the district.
Public Prosecutor Gokul Chandra Mandal said on the night of Jun 20, 2015, Suman Hembrom attacked his wife Sylvia with a knife following an argument.
Sylvia’s uncle Lucas Hembrom, mother Sandhya Rani and sister Theresa were murdered by the convict when they stepped in to rescue Sylvia.
The convict later stabbed his 5-year-old son Sunny to death as he had witnessed the whole thing, according to the case documents.
According to bdnews24.com, Sylvia survived the attack and now lives maimed.
