Law enforcers on Monday arrested eight people, including their ringleader, from Chapainawabganj as they were involved in committing fraudulent activities and taking money from the aspirants of police constable examinations.
The group also promised the candidates of 'confirm appointment'.
The detainees were identified as key offender Setu Mandal, son of Salam Mandal of Sahapur village in Pirganj of Rangpur, his accomplices Mokarram Hossain, son of Md Abu Sufian of Pathakata village in Nakla Upazila of Sherpur, two examinees Phulchad Singh, son of Paban Singh of Chouka village in Shibganj upazila, Amin Ali, son of Gazrul Islam of Bhutitola village of same upazila, two siblings Monirul Islam and Abdus Salam, sons of Abu Bakkas of Chauka village, Anwar Hossain, son of Tasib Uddin of Pukuria village, and Tazerul Begum, wife of Mofazzal Hossain of sadar upazila.
Police Superintendent of Chapainawabganj TM Mozahidul Islam at a press conference said they were arrested on charges of different irregularities including involvement in proxy examinations and fraudulent activities during the entry tests.
Among the offenders, six Dhaka University students were held for giving proxy in the examination and two others for secured high scores in the written examination thought their handwriting did not match with the test copy, he said.
A team of Detective Branch arrested the mastermind of the racket and his assistant during a drive at Matidhali area in Bogra, he added.
The law enforcers also recovered Tk 1.5 million (Tk 15,00,000) from them, he said, reports UNB.
