Criminals in guise of RAB, police on the prowl

Criminals impersonating them as members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police have been committing crimes such as robbery and abduction.

In the last two days on Saturday and Sunday, the law enforcers arrested 14 persons as they have long been committing crimes identifying them as members of RAB and Detective Branch (DB) of police, from the capital.

“We arrested seven persons for kidnapping people impersonating them as members of the RAB from Kawla area around 10:30pm on Sunday night,” commanding officer of RAB-1 Lt Col Sarwar Bin Kashem said, reports BSS.

RAB personnel also recovered one foreign made pistol, one magazine, two ammunition, two pairs of handcuff, one walky-talky, two sets of jacket of RAB, one microbus inscribing with RAB sticker on it, two signal lights, four pieces of black clothes and Tk 28,000 in case from their possessions, he also said.

The arrestees were identified as Md Kashem alias Jibon, 58, son of late Abed Ali Bepari of Munshiganj, Ibrahim Khalil, 40, son of Abul Basher of Bhola, Zakir Hossain Sumon, 27, son of Shaheed Bepari of Madaripur, Billal Hossain alias Aslam, 32, son of Abdur Rakib of Barisal, Abdul Mannan, 50, son of late Saijuddin of Narayanganj, Md Sohag, 27, son of Siddique Bhuiyan of Barguna, and Md Arif, 28, son of Abdul Gafur of Narayanganj.

The gang had abducted two people in September and 11 people in October. They kidnapped several people on the highway areas including Habiganj, Sitakunda, Ashulia, Chandina, Keraniganj, Narsingdi, Madaripur, Manikganj, Tangail’s Mirzapur, Sirajganj, Tongi, and Comilla’s Chauddagram.

Earlier on Saturday, seven others were arrested for allegedly planning to commit a dacoity posing as DB of police.

“We arrested seven fake DB men for planning to commit a dacoity from Garibe Nawaz Avenue area at sector 11 of Uttara,” said a police official.

Police personnel also recovered a microbus, one pistol, one round of bullet, one pair of handcuff and wireless set from their possession, he also said. The arrestees, Md Arif Hossain, 34, Md Ali Fakir aIias Lala, 48, Md Sanwar Hossain alias Sajib, 27, Md Swapon Mia, 28, Md Apu, 28, Md Sabuj Hossain, 28, and Md Sabuj Mridha alias Rahat, 26, confessed their link in robbing people in the city streets in guise of DB men, he added.

Two separate cases were lodged with Uttara Pashchim Police Station to this end.
