A Rohingya leader was hacked to death in front of the distribution centre at Balukhali camp by so-called "opponent group" on Monday night.
Deceased Md Arifullah, 36, passed BA honours from University of Yangon. He was very skilled in English language. He used to describe the misery of Rohingya to different ministers, presidents and foreign officials who came to visit them in the camps, said Ukhia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Nikaruzzaman.
Md Abul Khayar, officer-in-charge of Ukhia Police Station, said on information, a police team recovered the wounded body around 8:30 pm. There were many deep wounds in different parts of the body.
Earlier on October 19, an opponent group of Rohingyas had attacked Arifullah. Though he escaped that time, his younger brother Muhibullah sustained knife injuries, said a UNB report.
The mystery behind the killing is being investigated, the OC added.
