AL leader among nine accused of killing JL activist

The family of Juba League activist Farid Islam, who was killed in a shootout over the control of a cable TV business in Chattogram, has filed a case against nine people, including an Awami League leader.

Manwara Begum, wife of Farid, filed the case with Chawkbazar Police Station on Friday night, said police Inspector Arif Hossain.

“At least 15 people were accused in the case as well as nine named suspects including MA Musa, Faisal, Rasel, Masud and Murad,” the inspector said.

Faridul Islam, 40, a former organising secretary of the Juba League’s Chawkbazar ward unit, died in a gunfight near Kalam Colony on DC Road in the port city on Friday.

A cable business called KCTN, formed by three people including Emdadul Hoque Badsha, had been providing cable network to the area for nearly 20 years.

The supporters of MA Musa, started to hang a new cable line in the early hours of that morning in an effort to set up a rival business, said KCTN employee Kutub Uddin.

Farid, a friend of Badsha, protested the issue and was shot.

MA Musa is a general secretary of local Awami League ward unit-17.

Nurjahan Begum and her 11-month-old grandson Belal Hossain were also injured in the skirmish, reports bdnews24.
