A court in Chittagong on Tuesday sentenced six people to life term imprisonment for killing a SSC examinee in Patia upazila in 1991.
The court also sentenced another person to five years rigorous imprisonment and acquitted four others in the murder case, said Jahangir Alam, PP of Chittagong Public Security Tribunal.
It also fined the convicts Mahbubul Alam, Habibur Rahman, Aminul Haque, Milon Barua, Abul Kashem, Nurul Alam and Samir Das Tk 30,000, in default, to suffer one year more imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the convicts abducted Suvash Barua, 16, son of Dilip Barua, from his Chattarpitua village home in Patia upazila and demanded ransom on June 21, 1991.
Later, victim's father filed an abduction case with Patia Police Station.
Police, later, arrested two people.
During interrogation, they confessed that Suvash was murdered in Hyidgaon hill and buried there after abduction. However, the body was not found yet. Police submitted charge sheet against them after investigation, reports UNB.
After examining witnesses and documents, special Judge Syeda Hosne Ara of the Chittagong Public Security Tribunal handed down the verdict on Tuesday afternoon.
