BOGRA, Nov 18: T-Aman harvest is going on in full swing across the district.
Farmers are expecting 2.43 tonnes of yield from a hectare of land, said sub-assistance agriculture officer of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Faridur Rahman.
According to the DAE, farmers have cultivated the paddy on 1,89,0040 hectares of land in the district this season.
Local paddy traders said Aman paddy is being sold at Tk 920 and Tk 950 per maund in the retail market, while the wholesale is at Tk 900 to Tk 910. The Aman farmers are happy over the good output and the present market prices.
Agriculturist Golam Rabbany said growers sowed high quality T-Aman seeds like BINA- 7, BR-48, 49, 56, 57, 62, 71 and 72 and local early variety Basmati paddy while the DAE officials provided farmers with training and necessary instructions to boost production.
"I have harvested 15 to 20 maunds of paddy production from a bigha of land, as weather was almost favourable this year," said Shahidul Islam, a farmer of Dawakola village under Sadar upazila. "The newly-harvested paddy is being sold at Tk 1800 to Tk 1900 a sack (two maunds)," he added.
Deputy Director of DAE Protul Chandra Sarker said he expressed the hope that paddy farmers will be benefitted this season.
