A three-day regional Ijtema has begun in Jessore district.
Mufti Abdul Bareq, Kakrail Mosque Imam, delivered the opening speech at the congregation, kicked off on Thursday morning.
Thousands of Muslim devotees have already taken shelter on the Ijtema ground.
All the preparations including construction of makeshift accommodation facilities, toilets and bathrooms for devotees and installation of tube wells, have been completed, organisers said.
Salahuddin Sikder, Additional Superintendent of Police, said a total of 2,000 policemen have been deployed to maintain law and order on the ground and ensure security of the enthusiasts.
