Land dispute leaves five dead in Kishoreganj

Clashes between local factions of Awami League and BNP over a piece of land killed five people, including three siblings, in Charigram of Mithamoin Upazila in Kishoreganj.

The violence that broke out on Thursday afternoon and continued for two hours also left more than 50 people injured, said Mithamoin police OC Alamgir Hossain, reports bdnews24.com.

But Chairman of Dhaki Union Council Md Majibur Rahman has claimed that five people, including three brothers, died in the clash.

The deceased are identified as Rajib, Mokbul Mia and brothers Fardis, Makhan, and Masum, he said.

Awami League leader Suleman Bhuiyan and BNP leader Pallab Bhuiyan had been enemies for long, said Rahman.

“They are also facing cases for their long-standing feud on land and fish farming.”

Suleman is a resident of Taguria while Pallab lives at Bhuiyan Hati in the village.

Pallab’s followers attacked Suleman’s relative Rajib in Nayahati area at 12 noon, said the chairman.

“Rajib died on the spot after he was pierced by a spear. Following his death, a few hundred of villagers from the sides of both Pallab and Suleman started a battle with sharp weapons and sticks.”

Mokbul was a follower of Suleman while the three brothers were followers of Pallab, said he.
