Khulna ‘gunfight’ leaves ‘robber’ dead

An alleged member of a forest robber gang was killed during a 'gunfight' with Police in Vayrar Khal area in Koyra upazila of Khulna on Tuesday night.

Officer-in-Charge of Koyra Police Station, Enamul Haque said, being tipped-off, Police conducted a drive in the area around 8:30 pm.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire at them prompting them to fire back, triggering a gunfight.

Later, Police found bullet-hit robber, Gama Mandal (40), hailing from Sarappur village in Dumuria upazila, second-in-command of notorious forest robber gang 'Munna Bahini', on the spot and took him to Koyra Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to injuries.

The law enforcers also rescued the 11 fishermen who were abducted from several areas of Sundarbans three days back and recovered two boats, two rifles and five bullets, reports a local news agency.
