A suspected robber leader was killed in a reported gunfight with detective branch (DB) of police at Kanchan bridge area in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Sharif, accused in 15 cases including robbery with different police stations, reports UNB.
Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of DB said, “On secret information that a gang of robber was taking preparation for committing robbery, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area around 4:30am.”
Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them, forcing them to retaliate, triggering the gunfight, said the officer.
After half an hour gunfight, the law enforcers recovered the robber's bullet-hit body.
The DB team also arrested two members of the gang along with a pistol.
